Why is skin care so important?
Skin care is important on many levels, but none as important as slowing the aging process on our face and keeping a youthful, healthy look. Skin is made up of the dermis and epidermis. The dermis has four or five layers depending on the type of skin. It is just above the inner most layer of the epidermis that the primary phagocytosis (fighting off insurgent attackers like germs, viruses, and chemical exposures) takes place.
Our skin is our largest organ, and although it's amazingly resilient and can cope with all kinds of harmful stresses every day including ageing, ill-health, exposure to sunlight, pollution, free radicals and other environmental factors it still needs a little help. Healthy skin functions help protect the body and make your face appear more youthful.
With these factors in mind we must consider the health of our skin everyday. When it is less than ideal, we need to support the essential processes our skin performs and replenish any depleted building blocks with an effective daily skin care routine utilizing the highest quality products.
Ceramides, the essential lipids found in the surface layer of skin that help maintain the integrity of the skin's barrier layer, play a paramount role in the skin's ability to prevent and repair external damage and to retain moisture. They're found naturally in our skin, and they're the most commonly lacking skin components as a result of ageing and environmental effects.
They are the mortar that holds the skin cells (bricks) together. When this barrier is intact, skin looks smooth and glowing. But with age and environmental exposure, your skin's natural ceramides can be compromised leading to loss of moisture, roughness, fine lines and wrinkles, and allowing outside irritants to get into the skin.
This is where cosmeceuticals come into play. Cosmeceuticals are scientifically and medically proven to improve skin on the molecular level. They enhance the external layers of skin, but most importantly they work on the dermal layer where oxygen and blood flow take place.
So as you can see, having healthy skin is as important as the health of any other part of the body. Many people understand how important skin care is. Perhaps, this is one of those reasons why today there are so many beauty products on the market. Most of us usually tend to associate skin care, particularly face care, to just good looks when in all actuality skin care is more important than we think.
