The One Club You Should Have in Your Bag.

Great strides have been made in the last few years in development of golf equipment but without a doubt; the one advance that has changed the game for more average golfers than any other is the hybrid. Part iron and part wood this club has become an excellent choice for golfers who are looking for a club that they can reach the green with from 180 yards out. If you don't have one in your golf bag by now, get it.

Like all clubs, hybrids can be made out of different types of metals and come with different degrees of loft. The most common hybrid will mirror a 4 iron but is much easier to hit. The hybrid is designed to launch the ball up into the air better than a long iron and allows you to hit the shot from a variety of lies. Runners on the bottom of the club will help it cut through long grass and even sand. The loft on the hybrid will vary from about 16 degrees to 20 degrees and that will help determine how far the ball will go.

Hybrids are not just for amateur players, many professionals have found out just how easy they are to hit. David Toms used a hybrid when he made his famous hole in one in the final round of the PGA championship. Y.E Yang also used a hybrid to beat Tiger Woods in the 2009 PGA Championship. Yang put his second shot on 18 with a 20 degree hybrid just 8 feet from the hole and went on to sink the birdie putt.

Hybrids are perfect for that long par 3 that average golfers always seem to struggle with.

Holding a three or four iron in your hand will never give you the same confidence as setting up the same shot with the hybrid especially if you have to carry a trap or clear water. With the hybrid you know you will be able to get the ball up into the air and you are much more likely not to hit it thin. Hybrids have become so popular that many manufacturers are now including them in the sets of clubs that they sell, eliminating three and four irons.
