FUNNY BOATING STORY: WATCH OUT FOR THE DOCK Published: 25/08/09

My wife, my dog and I were out on Lake Nockamixon in PA in my boat late one evening until about 11:00 pm. That's when we decided to head in for the night.

This is where it gets scary. As I approached the dock I slowed down naturally but I must have mis-judged how close I was. I had to quickly retrieve my husky's leash so he would not just leap off of the boat and keep on running - he was a bit goofy that way.

While I'm trying to get the leash. I heard my wife say "Billy" then immediately "BILLY!!!!!" Before I looked up I slammed straight away right into the end of the dock head on. We all went sprawling forward.

I quickly cut the power to my motor so I would not look too ridiculous (like it matters at this point). We sort of collected ourselves and we stood up on the boat to get on the dock. Then I suddenly realized it was Friday night and there were about 4 other boats preparing to launch for a night of fishing who's occupants stopped cold and all eyes were focused on me in horror.

I had not been drinking but quickly wish I had. Humiliation swelled inside me. Then not knowing quite what to do next as my wife was fuming with both anger and embarrassment I suddenly burst into laughter - a great big hardy one. I did’nt know what else to do.  But now my wife was really mad!

By now the other fisherman were REALLY scared of me and watched every move I made.  I said "hi" as I walked by but I think they were too stunned to answer me.  I continued laughing my full head off as I imagined them thinking "what kind of idiot is this guy - slamming his boat into the dock in the middle of the night"

One of life's most embarrassing moments is an understatement.  I wont ever forget that.  As for the ride home with my wife well................use your imagination!
