There are two basic rules for purchasing a quality rifle scope. The first and foremost is you get what you pay for and you should purchase the best the can be afforded. Be assured that the more expensive the better the quality. Higher priced rifle scopes will use higher quality glass that is why manufacturers like Zeiss and Swarovski cost more than Bushnell and Tasco. There are too many hunters that have a great treasure rifle but then purchase the cheapest scope to top it. Why?

Your rifle will preform better with a higher quality scope. You want to be dead on with you target. Rifle scopes can range in price for $50 to in excess of $1000 but keep in mind that you want to purchase what you can afford. You are not required to spend what could be you life savings to buy a great scope. Leupold and Burris have a good line of scopes that may not break the bank. Once a scopes has been determined the you want to move on to the characteristics that you need to consider which is the second rule.

For the second rule you want to choose a rilfe scope that with be sufficient for your hunting application. There are a lot of hunters that try to put the most powerful scope on to top their rifle. Remember the saying "less is more." When hunting in the woods you more than likely will not hunt long range but your target will be close range (less than 100 yards). When you have a higher power scope this can make you target look like a blob or a blur.
