If you didn’t know, your occupation can greatly impact your auto insurance premium. Insurance companies charge lower premiums from scientists, pilots, navigators and artists. These professionals pay the lowest insurance rates available. Lawyers, judges, executives and business owners, on the other hand, pay the highest rates.

But why the difference between occupations? Lawyers, judges, executives and business owners have highly stressful jobs, and spend more time in their cars and talk more frequently on their cell phones than any other driver. Scientists, pilots, navigators and artists, on the other hand, drive less than any other person.

And there’s more: scientists, for example, are regarded as being very meticulous and detailed-oriented people, tending to have good driving habits on the road. For auto insurance companies, this outstanding attention to detail means scientists are safer drivers, resulting in lower car insurance premiums.

The same applies to pilots and navigators, whose jobs require them to be focused on the wellbeing and safety of other people. These skills are often transferred to their driving habits as well. Pilots and navigators are also very safe drivers because their driving records also impact their professional life. If a pilot or navigator got into an accident or received a DUI, their career opportunities would be restricted or even eliminated.

As for the artists, they’re at the lower end of insurance premiums because their jobs require them to work inside the city, where they are more apt to commute via train or bus to work, instead of driving, limiting their time in the car and reducing their chance of getting into an accident.

If you take all of these factors into account, you can easily see why some occupations are coined as "high-risk" and pay more for auto insurance than others.

But getting discounts on auto insurance is not a new concept. For years, insurance companies have been giving discounts to members of “affinity groups". These discounts are just now being extended to certain occupations.

This is exactly true, occupation has a great impact at your insurance, along with that your location is also a factor of it, suppose you are living in a crowdie place where most of times accidents occurs, so it may affect your insurance rates. Actually insurance company has to check this feature s that they can lower their payouts for paying their clients at time of accidents etc. They are keenly interested to collect your personal information’s and decide your insurance quote on the basis of those collected information. As mentioned location of job is highly interlinked with the insurance rates, the longer you drive the more you pay, the more you use your car the more you pay, just think about that. And may be you can see that it’s true.

Right now, you must be wondering if your occupation can save you some money on your auto insurance, right. I know I am. So think about that.
